Gas Can Drum

Gas Can Drum The jeep did not come from the factory with a gas can. This was added by the unit to which the jeep was assigned. This means that the jeep received a gas can from stores (military storage). Any gas can with a WWII date could be proper for the Jeep. As all gas cans are dated, it is easy to determine which can is proper. Gas was the normal liquid carried. Depending upon mission requirements, or other in field needs, water cans, soups cans, and lubricating oil cans could be substituted.
Gas Can Bracket The bracket or holder was mounted on the rear of the jeep starting in June 1943 with MB serial number 165582. This was such a useful feature that many earlier jeeps were retrofitted. A two piece belt and buckle secures the gas can to the bracket.
