Apparatus for Decontaminating

Decontamination units were added to the jeep by the Chemical Corp when the mission justified. The photo shows one of the varieties used by the Army. This unit was produced by the FYR FYTER CO. It is labeled DECONTAMINATING APPARATUS, M2. The label also mentions that it is not a fire extinguisher! The unit is 18 inches long and is painted gray.

The decontamination unit was held by a special bracket very similar to a fire extinguisher bracket. It mounted on the floor behind the right seat. The mounting holes for this bracket were already predrilled in the jeep body. A screw, washer and nut plugged the holes until needed. If you know this little bit of information, you will not weld these holes closed, when restoring the jeep (like I did!).
