How the mighty fall. Panzer Lehr was the crack Wehrmacht armoured division, or certainly amongst the finest and best equipped.
Apparently he was released in 1947. I bet these were taken just prior to his release. They are very posed.
According to Wikipedia he was a technical adviser on 'The Guns of Navarone'. I wonder what that entailed. I recall the film as so much gung-ho nonsense.

.
Bayerlein wasn't really a German,
he was a Bavarian.
Barvarian is about as different from German
as it's possible to get.
There's a German saying,
"There are pigs, Poles, and Barvarians in that order.'
So it's rather surprising that he got to be a general.
Apparently, he played a key part part
in whitewashing the Werhmacht after the War.
So, in a way, he played a key part in the Cold War
but on the Allies side.
And West Germany's of course.
"Bayerlein was released from captivity on 2 April 1947. After the war he wrote about military subjects and was involved in the first historical studies of World War II. He was also a technical advisor to the Carl Foreman production of The Guns of Navarone. He died in his hometown Würzburg in 1970." Wiki

"Compared to the crimes, robberies and excesses committed by the army [part of the Wehrmacht], the SS and the police don't look all that bad" Reinhard Heydrich, Chief of the Reich Main Security Office (including the Gestapo).

So where do the Austrians fit in the order? Below pigs or above Bavarians?

What a historically significant post. I had not ever looked into what the former generals were going after the war!

Who ever was in charge of that motorpool should have been carpeted! Look at the state of that MB that Fritz is under! Spring clip displaced, no shocker, so much for Army maintenance

That is a great comparison photo between a German sdkfz 251 and the US M3 half track.West-Front wrote:

I was taught early-on in computerism that typing in caps or bold was yelling and rude. You really got it bad with the nazis, don't ya? What about the Japs?? Think they were a bit more vicious to our troops, at least in my family.

Better yet keep it to yourself.
Actually another way is possible. Take your vast amount of knowledge and have it compiled into a book, then have it peer reviewed and if it passes muster then get on the talk show circut and build up a name for yourself. It should be quite easy and I suggest you cut out all distractions like the Gee and come back in 5-10 years. I have every confidence that you can accomplish this. Good luck.
