M38 tub question

Postby Applebee » Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:51 am

I just acquired a 1951 M38 (don't have it home yet) that has no tool indents on the passenger side. In trying to research it, I noticed on page 49 of the Military Vehicles Magazine 2010 Ambassador Issue, the M38 pictured there also does not have the tool indents. I'm fairly certain the tub is an original and it doesn't appear to have been repaired in that area. Did some M38's come without the tool indents? Any thoughts or leads?

Thanks!

The M38 (MC) tub should have a small glove box and a battery box in the cowl.
Also large opening for the fuel filler. Post us some photos if you can!

I'll try to attach some older photos from when I first looked at the jeep a year or so ago. It does have the cowl-battery box, M-series guages, large fuel neck, and small glove box (with complete data plates) as well as the hood support rod. Most of the other military features have been civilianized such as tailights, signal marker lights, tailgate etc. If the photos don't load, you can email me at militaryjeeps@q.com and I'll reply with pix.

Thanks!
