oiling tappets?

Postby toolguy97 » Fri Oct 01, 2010 7:52 am

I am new here. have been reading for a while though. I am rebuilding a CJ3A and have got the engine rebuilt and started with good oil pressure but little to no oil at the tappets. Why would this be and how could I fix it? Thanks.

You need to make sure your passages to your tappet guides are clear. If during work they got debris in them or if they were plugged while valve guides were replaced that could be it. You also have oil troughs cast in the crankcase that carry the oil to the tappet guides. Not real clear on what a little oil means but no oil is very bad.
