Tom: Is this what you might be looking for regarding data/frame stamps? I have not located the frame numbers or engine or transmission numbers on this one yet. All three data plates are present. I can send better pictues via e-mail it is easier.

Hi Jerry,Jerry Denny wrote:The GTB frame stamp is on the top of the right frame rail near the rear of the engine block. It’s also on the top flange of the transmission near the inspection plate.
I’m working on one that was built in Louisville, KY.

Our frame is stamped with "GTBS" as it is (aparrently) a Bomb Truck, Single axel. Are the GTB C's stamped the same way, ie:- the stamp suffix indicates what type of GTB it is/was?

Re: Attention GTB Series Owners
We noticed long ago that GTB's were a great source for F bolts and other Jeep hardware. Did all of the production run use f bolts or only early production? My GPW,4-5-43 does have all the 5/16th and up f bolts but not a single 1/4" bolt with the f headstamp anywhere on it. The 1/4" bolts used are without any headstamp. Maybe they were running out. R

Re: Attention GTB Series Owners
Hello guys,
I bought a GTB last week and I am trying to find out as much as possible about it. The engine cover is gone so I have no data plates but I did take a picture of the frame stamp. If any of you guys can tell me if this was a cargo or bomb truck and the year produced I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Joe.

Re: Attention GTB Series Owners
Hi Joe,
Thanks for posting your GTB data.
Your GTB 199029 was assembled after May 23, '44 but the original data plate would have called it a 1943. It could have been a cargo or a bomb service truck. If the passenager side running board is still intact, a running board that ends at about the rear of the cab = cargo and a running board going past the cab = bomb service.
I hope it was not the bomb service since there looked to have been two of the rear hoists at the sale where you got the truck which are most likely in very small pieces headed to China by now.
Also your GTB was assembled at the Louisville, Ky. assembly plant.
Using paint remover on the hood may bring out the original hood numbers which could help in telling what the truck original was.
I just went back and reviewed the auction photos, Your GTB 199029 was originally a Bomb Service Truck ( long passenger running board ) used by the Navy and originally painted Olive Drab Green.

Re: Attention GTB Series Owners
Thanks for the info Tom. I did a little paint removal today and found some numbers. Blue number on OD body. There was also a "S" on the cab below the windshield. It is all visible in the photo I will post. The running board is long but I have noticed that board on cargo trucks in photo's. I bet that was a case of a cargo bed placed on a bomb truck? The hood number is 103497. I also noticed the gas tank filler is on the drivers side on my truck and appears to be original although the tank doesn't. The fill cap place just looks too nice to be added.
Thanks again.
Joe
Thanks again.

Hi firefighterbill,
I did not find any GTB bomb handling equipment photos or equipment data at the Ford Archives. My guess is if there were bomb handling equipment used on the GTB bomb trucks it was added at a Naval vehicle depot.

Tom
Here is what I have on a GTBA cargo I just bought. The engine cover has been switched at some time as it says it is a Bomb Service Truck'
Here is the date plate but we know it isn't right
Hood Number U.S.N. 108725
Trans. number G. I B 218299
The truck is still in Arizona and the seller hasn't located the number on the frame. Where exactly is it?

Re: Attention GTB Series Owners
Hello rgus,
GTB 218299 should be the original motor serial number of GTBA 108725. This GTBA would nave been assembled at the Louisville assembly plant in very very early Oct. '44.. The frame number should near the front right motor mount. I believe it has been posted it is ahead of the motor mount. The stamped number should be the same as the motor/transmission number the former owner found.
GTBC 172952, I believe, was also a Louisville built GTB from about very very late Feb. '44.
