1942 Closed Cab CCKW For Sale (SOLD)

Post by William S » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:28 pm

Hi List,
I'm selling my 1942 cckw 352. It has the hole in the roof for a machine gun mount. The truck runs really good and I just installed a new master cylinder. The frame and the cargo body are in really good shape. The cab needs some rust repair. This is a solid truck. Asking $8k or make me a reasonable offer. Email for more pictures or info. I also have a title for the truck.
Thanks,
William

Lowered to $7200. This is a running and driving truck with brakes! Am I listing this wrong or just no interest? Price to high? Any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
William

My 2 cents, cckws are too large for the average collector that lives in a housing development, thats why the smaller stuff,, jeeps, handcarts, weasels sell for much more, I just dont see any cckws selling. (unless it a speciality truck, k43, k44, k51)now that the market is way down. too large, and too much to ship. etc. 3500-5000, is going price, but i know of 3 under $2500. one cab and chassis for $850(beds are around 1000-1200. (you'd have $2000 in it) Yours is nice with the ring. and brakes, etc. good luck with the sale. I'd love to have it, but not at that price, the market is busted right now. Airborne chassis cckw, (basket case, wrong cab, bed)) would run for $4800. Still too high in my thoughts. Tires 10 of them($$$$) cab corners, door bottoms, floors etc starts adding up. Even when the market was up, 2004-2008, your price was there or a bit high, Alot of people got caught up in BUYING,, we all did. Well, surprise, just like the housing, it busted.. Nows a great time to be a buyer.. oh well, my 2 cent,, or thoughts is what you asked for.. i dont think the market is done falling. like stock,, SELL sell SELL,, or SELL later, when its worth nothing... or hold on to it, and break even.. 5 years from now..just depends on how long you have to take a bath... there will always be another one. If you sell cheap, you going to buy cheap.. or cheaper.. dont be fooled by asking prices, thats just it a asking price.. not what a dealer sells it for, or would love to get for it. I just bought a running with parts 1942 ford snow truck, $2000, dealer has one not running apart for $4800, i bought a IH, m2-4 for $1000, dealer has one for or is asking $7600. go figure,, Hey, i'm all for making money, it's the american way. but there is alot of boosting of sales.. or advertising, which is ok, but i'll shop for deals, i do like your truck though.. looks like it came from kevin's place? if you cant sell it,, hold on to it,, 4th of july is coming!! jc

PS .. what the heck is happening in Massachusetts?? there are LOTS of deals coming out of there??? about 10-20 trucks for sale in that state in the last month??

No need to pick apart something good that is being offered. The MV market is still holding well for those who have means. These trucks are still recession proof price wise. Bill's CCKW has potential and is not a cast off truck that has 50 years in the weeds. The Euro trucks are composites of CCKW's from all production periods as that is how they were rebuilt Mine is from Denmark and had differences, the true collectors will take this all in stride as shown in the recent CCKW "walk Around" by David Doyle, most trucks in his book display their heritage as does Bill's truck. If cost is a factor than one should find a smaller and cheaper vehicle that is within their means. Those who do have a place in their heart are willing to invest what it takes, $12-$20,000 is not chicken feed and surely not for tire kickers.

i'm not " pick apart " just giving him feedback-- that's what he wanted, and asked for. i'm not complaining about cost, but that's what he asked for- feedback and cost to do a cckw are much higher. i dont think "These trucks are recession proof pricewise" ALL trucks have taken a beat n. in this recession. about 20-30% loss. its good to be a buyer.. CCKWs stay in the 2500-5500 range all day long,, you can buy a good restored one for 8500-12,500 up to 15,000.. Cost are just like a JEEP. Projects 2500-5000, Done turn key. all day long $10-15,000. The crazy thing is that $5000 JEEP , WILL COST YOU MORE TO RESTORE IN THE LONG RUN, THAN BUYING A RESTORED ONE FOR $12,000-15,000.
BUT stuffs not selling. those asking 8000-11,000 for these unrestored cckw's are not getting those prices, during these times. It's a cool truck,, with ring and all, my friend sold one last year, for much less, similiar condition. HEY,, if a buyer and seller come to an agreement, and both are happy.. its a good deal.. right? good luck with your sale. If you dont have to sell it..WAIT, and sit on it. Plus its only been posted for a few days!!!

Split Axle, hard cab, running, driving? And it's not worth 7200? You could not build one up from a junker for that much. It's a good price; the tires alone are $2500 if they are nice. BTW, my wife is from Taunton Mass.

The size of one's bank account is directly proportional to the MV budget.

The truck is nice but the price is a little out of reach right now for most. BTW in the photo, it doesn't have an MG ring mount, only the hole in the roof, so I can't guess what a ring for a SWB closed cab would cost. Recession proof, I don't think so remember it was only last year that gas was hitting 4 and 5 dollars/gallon around here.

I think most running 5k trucks are not as complete as this one looks. And more beat up too.
More photos needed of the front, back, under hood, in cab and chassis before pricing out.
This appears to be a nice truck. And with a title.

Remember, these trucks do not come with a can of Simonize and fresh paint. The fun is in watching the restoration progress. Mine was shabby compared to Bill's, it takes time. Bill is offering a gem here.
