Exhaust Manifold Heat Riser shaft leak

Postby Bill Thorne » Tue May 18, 2010 7:52 am

After a good day on the Red Ballin' through the Ozarks Convoy I found my exhaust maniflod to header pipe gasket leaking. After repairing that I found the heat riser shaft leaking at the shaft bearing on the opposite side from the counter weight. I know the obvious fix is to remove the manifold and replace the bearing...but was wondering if there is any way to repair this with the manifold in place. I have another outing in a few days and was hoping there is a way to fix this without a tear down of the whole manifold assembly.

Only one way to do it and it involves disassembly of the shaft from the valve. Best to locate a 646089 Kit for the heat control valve if any still exist.. Some dealers may have the separate pieces.
