Fellas, here's a source for some of those 40mm ammo cans ($15 each):

I used sheets of white fiber insulkation sold by MSC Industrial and guled it underneath the tub with HIGH TEMP Silicone! worked great....but then NM does not have a lot of rain and I don't drive in crummy weather with splashing water etc!!!!!

Other way, which I did not use - NOMEX wrap (available from aircraft supply and MCS Industrial) on the exhaust pipe itself!
WWII armor and towed guns.

Allan,

If you're on the east coast and feel like visiting the Aberdeen Meet, I'm sure you'll be able to get your hands on a couple of them.

Has anyone thought of maybe rare earth magnets to hold in place. They come in various sizes and pull weight. I was thinking about 1x1 cylinders. It'll lift it off the heat as well as gaining another inch of height. Put four down like legs and it about 400lbs of pull strength, still removable, but looks bolted in?

oh yeah... be careful you don't put your wallet in the can near them though. They are strong enough to erase credit cards

If your vehicle has as much paint build up as mine does then you can expect to loose a lot of magnetic pull power. It doesn't take much offset from the metal to drop a magnets strength to a tiny fraction of its original strength.

This one looks pretty good. Maybe I'll try them. $29.95 for 4:

Rick

DO NOT GET THE RARE EARTH MAGNETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Image

I got the group of 2 X 1 X 1/2" and they come in a block separated by plastic spacers. Well as soon as you disturb them they snap around and stick to another magnet. This picture of my hand was the end result. That is not just a blood blister, it is a chunk of meat gone. Now they are all stuck to each other and there is NO way in hell of separating them, NONE. It was a waste of 50.00!

You might be able to get a Purple Heart for that one.

In 1969, John Kerry got something similar and he earned his 3rd Purple Heart for it and it got him out of Vietnam. Maybe he was trying to install Earth Magnets on his boat?
