M29’s/M29C’s in civilian service…

Postby DUKWsInARow » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:13 pm

Several years ago, I constructed a 1/35 Scale M29C and had a great time building this model.

Recently, I’ve been constructing 1/72 models of HEMTT’s (M1977 CBT’s & an M978) and HMMWV’s which are loaded onto OTTX, DODX, and TTDX flatcars which operate on my model layout that is set in the 1980’s.

After being given a model of a Willys MB (which I’ve decided to turn into a CJ-3A) I decided to search to see if there were any 1/72 models of M151’s and found that there were none.

However, while searching for the M151, I found that both M29 and M29C models are available in 1/72.

Since my layout is set in the ‘80’s, it would be unrealistic to depict an M29 or M29C in active military service.

However, it’d be really neat to show one that had been surplused and put into civilian or rescue service.

Since my layout is set in Marias Pass, Montana, I was hoping to find a prototype for a civilian/rescue M29 or M29C that operated in the “lower 48.”

I found pictures of 2 M29’s that apparently operated at McAlpine Lake and Park, California but these two Weasels are painted a shade of green that is close enough to olive drab that I worry that people who see this model will assume that I merely botched the paintjob.

So, do any of you know where I could find other pictures of M29s or M29C’s in civilian service?

Thank you in advance.

Wildfire,

Pictures of an M29 that operated in Montana would be excellent since my layout is based on Burlington Northern’s Marias Pass Subdivision (Montana).

This link contains pages-upon pages of pictures of some of the specific scenery and structures I’m attempting to replicate. You’ll notice that there are several pictures of DODX (military) trains traveling through the pass;

(9 pictures down is a picture of an SP “Daylight” steam engine rolling out of the one of the snowsheds located throughout the pass. I’m currently attempting to construct one of these on my model layout.)

While I’m sure the other members of the forum would like to see the pictures of your M29 as much as I, I’ll send you my personal e-mail in a private message in case you can’t figure out how to post images and would be willing to e-mail the pictures to me (BTW; I don’t know how to post images on this forum either).

Thank you in advance.
