Wiper conversion - Vac to Electric

Post by soldroyd » Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:08 am

I have a 58 CJ5 with one vac wiper on the drivers side and a hand wiper on the passenger side. Both are installed on a venting windshield inner frame. Anybody know what the best and original looking conversion to an electric wiper motor is and who sells it?

The best looking are the later 71 to 75 CJ5 windshields with one piece glass and a bottom mounted single motor and linkage that operates the two bottom mounted wipers.

For the single shaft mounted motors the Bosch are about the best.

I will have to keep looking as I don't want to lose my venting windshield. I want the look of top hung wipers with the convenience of 12 Volt vs vacume.

My humble suggestion is an " American- Bosch unit", I've seen them come up once and awhile. they're really well made. I can tell you from experience those red capped ones you see many of the vendors offering are mostly unreliable and obnoxiously loud!!

6 and 24 volt models are readily available and reasonable in cost. Haven't seen many 12 models
