Stimsonite Reflectors, right for GPW?

Postby Dion » Sat Jan 16, 2010 8:47 am

Hi Guys,

I need some help or advice on Stimsonite reflectors. Are they right for WW2 jeeps or were these types of reflectors also produced after WW2?
I have the oportunity to purchase some out of about 40 odd different reflectors and I need to know if there were particular types used only on the GPW?
Thanks for your answeres in advance

The bezels on GPWs changed during the war, but the STIMSONITE 12A reflectors are correct....and were made after the war also.....the ones with "A.G.A." on them are NOT correct.

Stimsonite 12A was not used on WWII GPW,the Round or Oval bezel Guide with Stimsonite 12 was used.

Stimsonite 12 is proper for WWII, Stimsonite 12A is post war and common to M-Series.
The Difference is in the facets, Stimsonite 12 is coarse, 12A is a finer facet.

For 50's M-Series, the Guide A2 iwith Stimsonite 12A will be found on M-38/M-38a1.

Guide A2 with Guidex lens (similar to Stimsonite 12 A can be found on M-38, M-38A1, M-135/M-211, and Reo M-35 types.
M-37 of the 50's used the round Corcoran Brown with Stimsonire 12A.

We're getting close...how about "STIMSONITE" at the top and "NO. 12" at the bottom of the WWII ones Ben? These are the right ones...

That last one is what is on my GPW. The after war #12 facets seem to be diamond shaped and the GPW ones seem to be rounder facets to me. I have found similar ones of both types on old fold-up emergency road reflectors at flea markets, sold in the 40s and 50s for trucks.

Some of the late post WWII Stimsonite 12 lenses have AGA in raised letters, but the facets are correct.
