My Iraqi Lowrider and shadetree Armor

Postby Hell On Wheels » Mon Dec 28, 2009 8:07 am

I was taking time to organize my cd's and came across these photos I took during my time in Iraq. Here are some modifications my soliders (welding shop SSG Salisky) did of armor and my buddy and me making a HMMWV into a lowrider. Just to think when the deal started up in the news of not having any armor for our vehilces, we did look  Before M1114, 1151, 1152 and anything we have now.

Dont laugh guys but we did use these trucks in convoys, what do you think the news would say about this now? 8)

I remember seeing units adding armor on the news back then. Things have come a long way since that time, Humvee wise. :D

at a lecture at armor holdings, they mentioned using phone books...anything they could find helped somewhat.

Whatever would work, when we were in Kuwait before crossing the border we tasked the locals to fill sand bags to build a bunker in the beds of our HMMWV's that was supported by 4x4 lumber  . The HMMWV's would be much overloaded but with the threat of being shot at driving a light skin, us GI's would think of anything that would work, which this is an old tradition passed on. I wish I could find those pictures, you think what’s here is weird seeing those HMMWV with a bunker on the back was a joke  .
