I suggested to someone else a while back to leave the handle where it is and drop the linkage to go with a push/pull or stranded steel pull cable control.
This is the illustration I sent him. After you have the Odrive in and all the transfer back in place you fabricate a 3/16" or 1/4" steel guide tube and attach one end to the hole in the floor where the original rod came thru to the handle and bend/shape it as needed to end up the distance from the actuating arm that allows for full up travel of the arm to set the brake and clamp that end of the tube as shown. Then using a length of 7x19 1/8" stranded steel wire you attach one end to the actuating arm and thread the cable thru the tube and attach the top end to the handle. Be sure to set the length of the cable so that you have adequate free play and positive shoe setting. I use nicopress swages and a crimping tool to fabricate the attaching loop ends in the cable. You can find them in the fence wire section of you farme's store.
