Camp Roberts Next Week 4 Days of Trail Rides and Fun

Postby softskin_driver » Fri May 08, 2009 1:17 pm

Next Week is the 4th annual trip to Camp Roberts to have some fun with our Military Vehicles. We will once again be staying in the WW2 Barracks and cooking and eating in the Mess hall where thousands of troops have trained for our nations conflicts.
Next Saturday May 16th is Armed Forces day. Armed Forces Day is celebrated Every year on the third Saturday of May.
A little known fact is that the week running from the second Saturday in May to the third Sunday is armed forces week.
The purpose for these celebrations are to honor the americans who are serving our country in the five services - the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
While at Roberts we eat some meals at conmess with the soldiers training for deployment and we see the soldiers while they are training in the field where they check out our vehicles and we thank them for there service.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Roberts next week (there is still room) you can download a signup sheet from the MVCC website and bring it with you to Roberts.
PM me if you want to know more about this annual trip and how to attend.
Remember to fly the flag from May 9th thru the 18th and thank a soldier.
:)

These barracks we will be using are in "ready for issue" condition. They have been maintained and are clean from everything but the ghosts of those men and women who have passed thru those doors. The beds are good,,, no wallows from Boy Scouts playing trampoline. If you want to meal with the troops, you can at the ARMY / National Guard time schedules. You can also make your own meals in the barracks mess hall. The PX has a basic grocery store and has current issue military items,,, we cannot buy beer there, we cannot buy current issue military uniforms / issue items there. The trails we take, some are modern and some are from WW2, all lead to training areas. Some of the training areas visited, are long since abandoned and some are in current usage. We have been nicely treated by the Camp Roberts folks. (the active military as well as the civilian staff) They only ask, that we follow a few rules,,,,, no weapons, no dogs, no fireworks, no playing with the sheep, no disturbing active training, no solo expeditions, no scavaging parts, leave the barracks / mess hall as we were issued and NO ordnance souvenirs. Even with the intense heat of last year (thats NOT predicted this year) the trail rides were cool and enjoyable. Bring your cookables & pots (a large cook stove and small BBQ will be in the mess),,,,, bring your beverages(beer & ect),,,,, bring extra gas (nearest gas station is about 7-10 miles away from camp),,,,,bring your sleeping stuff (bag or sheets / blankets),,,,, bring window curtains (for privicy, if it matters),,,,, bring a fan (as needed),,,,, Bring your shower sandals & towels (ect...),,,, bring some food goodies to share (not just beer),,,,, bring something for the raffle ( $$ go toward next years free dinner),,,,, and finally,,,,, come for a kick ass time. There may be a MVCC member vendor or two there, so bring some extra $$ to buy goodies.

Trail ride times / destinations are loosely scheduled, so be ready to go for a hour or more with food, drink and extra clothing.

Don't worry if you do not have a vehicle,,,, come and be a passenger,,,, there is always room.

If you have any questions or minor concerns (relax !!),,,,,, post them here or PM "softskin_driver" (Dave) or Me

NOTE: There is Law Enforcemet, Fire and Medical Emergency personal on base.

There are lots of wildlife to be found at Camp Roberts. There is a no animals permited in the barracks policy.
Except the two legged type of course. You may bring a wool blanket of course if it behooves you...
