Hi, I am on that quest also! I would like to find a GPW engine for my 1945. Serial # is (246756)...
This could be a long search. I have a willy's replacement in there now...

Thanks, Mike

I have May 18, 1942 script GPW 31257 frame and data plate. (I even got the Virginia DMV to correct my title to read that VIN number. That's almost harder than finding a matching engine number!)

The engine is an MB block with a GPW head. Don't know what the innards are yet. Suspect lots of GPW guts.

The MB block serial number has been chiseled off but there is a rebuild tag with MB 239105 on it riveted to the block. Also reads .010 over. Difficult to read if any date or place is noted on the rebuild tag. The block casting number is 3-2 638632W3A N1-CB-N2

Would like any combination of trade, sale, purchase that gets me closer to all GPW power. I've given up on anal perfection. Soon I am going to rebuild (whether it needs it or not) what I have and get a life. A reasonably good GPW block would make me happy.

Postby Fred Coldwell » Sun Jun 07, 2009 8:00 am

Looking to acquire a very late war Willys engine or engine block having the 638632 engine block casting number and a very high engine serial number of MB-636XXX or MB-635XXX on the oval pad behind the oil filter. I'm in Denver, Colorado, USA. Please PM, email me or post here if you have such an engine or engine block for sale or trade which meets these requirements. Thank you!

It is in running condition, no smoke, etc., but I have not done any checks to confirm compression. Oil pressure is very good. It runns great and it seems it was probably rebuilt and put in my 45 by a farmer who owned the 43 in which we found my matching engine for the 45. Sounds crazy, but it is true.

Hi David:

Thank you for mentioning your engine MB-616XXX. It's close, but not close enough for my wants, which are very specific. Thanks anyway! :D

Benoit,

The name is DAVID, not Mike, but YES I HAVE THAT ENGINE. It needs a very minor repair where the PO hit the block with a hammer inside the valve opening. If interestd, I will go ahead and send it to the shop to have the work done.

Best Regards,

David

Ok folks, 3 engine BLOCKS for sale/trade. First, the two on the skids. The one with the pistons in it is an MB block. The other one is a GPW block. They don't appear to be cracked, so they should be rebuildable. The third one is cracked in several places, but it may be repairable.

Here's the bad. I have two sets of main caps, which I will have to find. They do NOT match the two better blocks, so an align bore will be necessary on ALL THREE BLOCKS. One of the cap sets came off of the cracked engine.

I'll post SNs and rebuild specs later, or if not, I'll answer any questions that are asked.

I'd like $100 for the MB block, $150 for the GPW block. The third block is up for the taking. Shipping is not included. Also, I'm OPEN TO OFFERS. These prices are only a starting point.

International buyers are welcome. I can transport to a port in Houston and will crate the engines for shipping. For this, you will be charged only what it costs me in materials cost and fuel cost to Houston and back.
