How to ID your Bantam T3-C Trailer


Fulton Model 0-6 hitch

Arrow tail lamp Model 41 or 7341

Arrow Model 4124 license plate bracket

Early or late tow chain hooks

Blackout lamp switch hole on lower front right side (early)

Park brake handle mounting holes (early)

Spring hanger rivet bucking holes (early)

Spring hangers riveted (early) or bolted (late)

ACM number on the gusset beneath the left front spring hanger

Shock mount holes in frame (very early)

Shackles “U” Jeep style or 2 piece flat stock style (later)

Combat Wheels, Solid Wheels, CJ2A Style Kelsey Hayes Wheels

Tarp tie down hooks 4 side, 2 front, 1 rear (early) or 3 side, 1 front, 1 rear (late)

Round drain hole patch in tub (early)

Four holes for riveting on the WWII data plate (early) T3-C data plate uses the upper holes

Bantam Data Pate Serial Number

Tube supports (early) or sheet metal supports (late) in rear

Bow pockets

Color Red or Green, possibly Olive Drab (very early)

Stencil on Tailgate or rear cross member (2 styles)

This is great, I just picked up my first T3 last week. It appears to be serial number 8117 so based on the database I am guessing it is a 1946.

I plan on doing a lot of reading, so I could rebuild this trailer.

The one thing that can help us both is to list the ACM numbers if they are found on what appears to be a Bantam T3-C.....I checked my data base and I have the same two you do with ACM numbers....

It would be interesting to track exactly when the changes to the civilian design took place and if they were all at once...the distinctive differences that are NOT just a bolt-on accessory would be the ones to check on...

1) The Fulton hitch is, as far as I know, the same bolt pattern as the Lunette drawbar bracket...is that correct? If so, this is not a way to tell a WWII from civilian.

2) Hooks....four on the side for WWII and three on the side for Civilian. I think this would be a way to tell WWII from Civilian (the four hook would have an ACM number?).

3) Stake Pockets...could be welded into the WWII ACM tub, can you guys confirm if any KNOWN Civilian has been found without them?

4) Rear/Side Supports...the tube style being the EARLY ones, can you guys confirm if this style was used on the WWII/ACM leftovers and when NEW production for the civilian came along that the change to the support was initiated?

5) Spring Hangers.....have the holes visible from the side on the WWII/ACM ones as these are RIVETED together and the rivets need to be bucked from behind.....when they elimninated the riveting, the holes were no longer punched. Can you confirm/track when that came about and if it is at the same time they ran out of WWII/ACM tubs and went to the civilian ones?

6) Tailgate.....it seems the WWII/ACM tubs just had the tailgate cut out and reused or another one installed (??). When they went to the civilian tubs, is the design of the tailgate changed?

7) Data Plate Holes.....four for the WWII/ACM tubs and TWO for the civilian tubs....can you confirm if the WWII/ACM tubs had the two bottom holes left open or were they welded up on the first civilian T3-Cs?

That's a good start and I will send you or post any T3-Cs that I run across and I hope you can refer the WWII/ACM numbered WWII and civilian examples you run across also.

Can you do a tutorial for the sticky "How To ID Your Post-War Bantam Civilian 1/4 Ton Trailer".....I believe there are more than a few WWII trailers that have had a Fulton hitch put on them and a tailgate cut out over the years!

1947 T3-C as purchased. I added red side reflectors and 2 yards of canvas bikini top. I recommend 3 yards 60" wide of canvas minimum. Bought at Hancock's Fabrics
