1944 AVR Air Sea Recue boat for sale

Postby Scroungerm5 » Tue Sep 16, 2008 6:00 pm

I found a 1944 AVR "crash" boat for sale. It is 63 feet long, standard mahogany diagonal decking, Gray Marine 671's, full set of plans. Some modifications but could be redone to WWII specs. Engines run well, needs some work but nothing major. Made in Louisiana by Higgins. In the San Francisco Bay Area. $7200. Email or call for pictures. Lee Edwards 925-447-9387 or 510-638-4140

Sounds like it might have been re-engined. Most of the crash boats I saw in San Diego in the early '60s had V12 Hall-Scott gas engines, plus a fire pump and foam setup forward. They were FAST!

Engine

AF crash boats during WWII had the V 12 Hall-Scott gasoline engine. All of the ones I saw during WWII were V 12's.

After WWII no one could afford the gasoline to run the boat and most people didn't have to go super fast so the engines were changed out for more economical to run engines.

Peace,

Ralph

If not yet sold, I am interested. Any chance you might post or email some pictures?

Thanks
