Braden Capstan Winch - Spare Parts - Discussion

Postby DavidA » Sat Jan 19, 2008 11:36 am

Hi guys,

Norm D, Mel, Al Brass, Jacco and Elwood all have their winches mounted and pulling. I am still in the parts acquisition phase. I am almost there but thought maybe we could start a post on spare parts availability here.

If you have or need parts to complete your Capstan winch or just want to talk about about your progress on acquiring the necessary pieces, lets do it here? Maybe some trades?

I know that I have learned a lot from Al and Jon Rogers with respect to the mounting plates and just got through making one. I was tickled pink to see the winch actually in use by the Norwegians and cannot recall seeing any other dataplate quite like Jacco's.

To be honest, I don´t have my winch mounted on my new jeep yet.
I still have it, it´s waiting in my workshop...

I hope I can mount it on my jeep, but I don´t know if I can keep it... It´s one of these money things, you know...

Let´s see what I can do about it...

But I think it´s a good idea to start a special topic here about the winch, allthough I think it won´t stay here very long. The only possibility would be to make it a "sticky"... :P

David, what parts do you need?

Worms, shafts...you name it I may need it.

The main purpose of my post is to get the word out that some of us are looking and hope the subj doesn't fall to the bottom of the pile with the wavy washers... Seems that it got "stuck"...thanks to the mod squad.

I need the "drum" or is it called the capstan for my winch. The shaft that goes into the drum is also missing.

I have other parts for trade, Willys MB and Ford GPW + tools and more.

Yippie! We got our own sticky post!

Frank, I can´t help with that parts, but there´s a winch for sale on a german MV forum and one on auction on ebay Germany...

David,

Did you try Wildenberg Netherlands? They got every winch part as repro, but they have normal prices...

Here are some links:

I don´t want to let Ron out of the list, he may have some winch parts, too?

Here´s a link for winch parts, but they are all for the after war Link- Belt winch. But they´ll fit the Braden winch, too...

http://www.capstanwinch.com/index.htm

Here´s Wildenberg, no pics or list, you´ll have to email them for prices...

Hope this helps...

Hey El... Ron does have some stuff but he also has use for them. He is mounting winches on numerous vehicles. GPA and GPW. He needs everything that I din't already glean from him.

I am suprised that others don't have parts and are either looking to complete their sets or are willing to trade them off for other needed parts. Frank for sure will come up with reasonable deals.

I hope he gets the drum he is looking for. Hmmm...wonder how hard it would be to make a repro drum??? 8)

Got the "worm" from Tom. NOS and in the box. Shipping charges were outa sight but hey, he had to hand carry the dang thing from the Right side of the country somewhere.

I am now at the point where I have completed my little project of re-producing the drive hub assembly for under a $1,000,000. It took time but it is done and looks pretty good. I needed additional machining done and that work was done by my friend Mac. Awesome .... Thanks Mac.

Looking for parts Braden winch

Postby emmado22 » Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:38 am

All,

I am looking for parts to make up a "winch kit" for my 45 MB. If you have any spares that you want to sell, please let me know. I have contacted some dealers both CONUS and overseas for pricing, but if anyone here has anything for sale, please let me know what you have, price, etc.

Thanks!
