FS: 1949 Tinplate German MP Jeep

Howdy Folks,

I have a neat Occupied Germany Tinplate WW2 Military Police Jeep to sell...

Image

This example measures 4.5" long x 2.25" wide (approx. 1/35 scale) and was made by GOSO (so marked on the rear and each tire). It is made from folded, lithographed tinplate with pressed-on rubber tires. It has a clockwork motor that drives the front axle. Based on the bumper markings (USA NURN) I'm guessing GOSO was one of the timplate toy companys in Nurnberg, Germany. The rear has a printed license plate that reads US ARMY P-1949 indicating a likely vintage of 1949. The underside is marked MADE IN U.S. ZONE GERMANY. This jeep does not appear in the AAW Volume III section on toy/model jeeps.

Condition is VG-EXC as old tinplate goes. The body shows minor "tweaking" that can probably be straighted by careful twisting. It has a small area of surface crazing to the left/front hood (as shown in the pic). All things considered, this little jeep is in remarkable condition considering the age and materials.

It is missing the three composition occupants, the spare tire, gas/water can and clockwork key. Still, it displays wonderfully as-is.

A great piece for your miniature jeep collection and a cool example of Occupied Germany toy manufacturing from the Stadt der Reichsparteitage that ultimately hosted the War Crimes trials.

Price is $90 which includes Priority Mail Postage in the Lower 48. Please PM direct if you are interested. Thanks for looking!

GÖSO was a big toy company in Germany before WWII and short after the war...

Sorry to tell you, but GÖSO wasn´t located in Nürnberg, " die Stadt der Reichsparteitage", but was located in Fürth!

But a good looking jeep!

Hi Jeff

Would it work if it had a clockwork key?
Thanks
Bob

Herr Elwood...

Ich kenne Fuerth... (Monteith Barracks -- "Flugplatz Atzenhof" -- 1986 bis 1989).

Fuerth is about as close to Nbg as one can get (that explains the bumper marking reference) but I didn't know that GOSO was from there -- vielen Dank!

Bob: I don't know since I don't have a key!!! Looks complete and unbroken but that's all I can say.l

Alles klar, Herr Jeff!!

Well, I have a pile of clockwork toy keys here, as I collect them... The toys, not the keys...

But a bit far away, huh?
