I purchased new drums, hubs, bearings, lugs, etc from Ron recently. I will immediately say I am one of the biggest fans of Ron on this site, so please don't misunderstand.
Anyhoo, got everything and headed to a local machine shop where they pressed the studs and bearing races. The guy at the machine shop actually wanted to mount them so the large flange on the hub was inside the drum, but I showed him the original and that's how we did it.
Went to install today, and couldn't get the washers and nuts on the spindle. I could get the 1st washer , then the nut, and that was it. There was barely a thread sticking out of the spindle. Took it all apart again, the inner seal is flush with the hub thought maybe I didn't seat it right. Put it all back together, same thing.
Put one of the old hubs back on, washer, nut, lock washer, nut, just like it came off.
I looked at the old and new side by side and attached the pictures.
There is almost a 1/2 inch difference between the 2. I think what's happening is that the drum is hitting the brake backing plate before the hub is fully seated.
Is there something different with the repro/replacement parts? Should the hub have been installed on the inside? Are their different spindle nuts?
I'm under a bit of a crunch, I have to have it in the port on the 28th to ship it to Germany.
Need advice, help, everything!!
