What not to do..........

If you already know or don't care to know how to do a one wheel wheelie with a mule then don't continue reading.

But if you want to know, keep reading.

Now that I have your attention, did you know that it is possible to do a front end wheelie on a mule only using the front left wheel?

Yes Sir're, its possible and it happened to me this afternoon. It scared the pi$$ out of me but let me share how to do it.

This afternoon after working on the ideling of the new mule I test drove it around the yard. After a few laps around the house I decided to get the mule out on the road to see how fast it would run and see how the govenor would kick in. I pulled out on the two lane road in front of the house and took off down a small hill. After hitting 3rd gear the govenor kicked in and I figured I was running about 20+mph. After about a 1/4 mile I thought about riding on the road and how much one of those Alabama State Troopers would like to catch me so I decided to take the neighbors drive to the left. You see the neighbors drive is about a 1/4 mile long asphalt drive. As I slowed down a bit to make the left turn I hit a couple of bumps and was soon back up to full speed because the govenor had kicked in. There I was, flying down the narrow drive. A 4 foot field fence on the left and a 4 strand barb wire fence on the right at the edge of the asphalt. While flying down the drive I noticed that the steering wheel was moving forward and away from me. Realizing that I must have left the hand screw loose on the steering wheel tube adjustment arm, I knew I need to get the steering wheel close to me. Without so much as a second thought, I gripped the wheel with both hands. Thinking it would be a hard pull, I yanked hard on the steering wheel. Well as we all learned in school, for each action you have an opposite and equal reaction. When I yanked hard on the steering wheel, it caused the whole steering system to cut the front wheels sharply to the right. The next thing I knew was I was 30 foot off the right side of the drive and had the mule up off the ground except for the left front wheel. The front basket was about a foot off the ground and I was staring at grass wondering what had happened. Then about that time, blam, the rest of the mule's wheels came back to earth. I just sat there a minute trying to realize what had happend and why. Needless to say if I had pulled the wheel back a second or two earlier, I would have hit the barb wire fence on the right side. Counted my blessing on that one while I took it easy back to the house.

Now you know what not to do.........

Rod, Other than a brused ego and the need to scoop out the BVD's I guess the ride home was uneventful. Glad to hear you were not injured.

At least you've kept THIS mule out of the creek....so far! Think what might have happened if it had been 4WS? Glad you're ok, Rod, could have been very bad.

You got lucky...this time! Glad you didn't get hurt.

I rolled mine last summer, by accident of course, but managed to get a leg between me and the mule to keep it from comming all the way over on top of me. Had to get the pick up and pull it back on its wheels. Not fun.
