Will a mite fit?

Postby Airborne » Sun Jul 16, 2006 4:51 pm

I have the itch to buy a mite but may be limited by my trailer size. According to Doyle's Standard Catalog of MVs, the mite (an A1) is 113 inches long and 61 inches wide. However, the track is 52 inches. Where's the extra width beyond the track (tires)? My trailer is 120 inches long and 59.25 inches wide. However, if the extra width is above the rail on the trailer--I'd be okay. The rail is about 12 inches high (give or take). Any insight by those that own one of these beasts would be greatly appreciated.

Trailer fit

Postby mstrmstr » Tue Aug 01, 2006 5:07 pm

You can make anything FIT, but, trailer must be rated for a TON.
Mite weight plus 10% safety is a TON.. your tongue weight with trailer values will be class lll at over 350 pounds..
Be cautious and dont spill the mite.

Measure the center to center for evaluating track widths though :)

Weight isn't a problem. It's dual axle trailer with brakes rated at 7500 pounds. It's just a littel small.

Measurement

Postby mstrmstr » Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:38 pm

Actual measurement(not mil info) for my A-1 is 58'' to max outside of tire.
Its also the OD of the body within a inch or so.
Leading edge of the tire to front of Mite is only 4.5"..
Pretty much the same for the rear. Depending on the wheelbase( 422 or 422A1) you can now figure if it will fit without modification.

So, My friend , it does look like a M422A1 will fit your trailer like its made for it.

FYI track must be centerline of the tires like your thinking.
Mine measures near 52" that way
Loading and lockin it down will be trick as you only have a inch or so here and there to play with

might width

Postby mr Ed » Wed Aug 09, 2006 5:38 pm

my ai measures 60 inches wide at the outside of the wheels as there is a bump out on the rim. this rim bump goes around the wheel at 9" off the floor. The widest part is at the top bow cross point which is 62".You could do like I did with a huey helicpter that wouldnt fit the trailer, make boards that extend out over the rails and if they bow too much tie them down in the center!(not legal in most states.)
