Well, I pulled the cylinders.....

Postby Frankie » Sun Jun 11, 2006 6:43 pm

I pulled the cylinders and pistons, wanted to check for wear and replace any worn parts as there had been lots of oil and dirt on the cylinder fins and I wanted to check for overheated parts also. I noticed that the copper sealing rings that go in the cylinder head were not included with the overhaul gasket kit I have, nor are they included with the new cylinder heads or cylinders. Question, can the old sealing rings be reused? Is there a recommended method to remove them from the old cylinder head? Also, is there a certain way to orient the pistons on reinstall , or does it make any difference? Thanks, Frank

The copper sealing rings can be reused, and most likely this will be necessary as they are unobtainable. This info courtesy of Bill Watson. Also, the rings are easily removed from the cylinder head, I used a small knife point to start them out. .
