GPW assembly plant
Hi fellow GPW enthusiasts. I have received wonderful feedback regarding my GPW # 275672 DOD 6-9-45. A few responses indicated that they needed to see a photo of my actual data plate to help me locate the actual plant where my GPW was assembled. I hope the photo I have submitted may lead to an answer. Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: GPW assembly plant
Looks like a Louisville GPW to me....one of the last! Where is this GPW located? You have omitted your location in your profile for some reason?

Michael, out of curiosity, how can you tell what plant this tag is from? DOD? Font, etc.? I know where my GPW was built, but just want to expand my GPW knowledge

Re: GPW assembly plant
From what I was told ,in the box on the Make Model line near FORD-GPW, all the assembly plants
stamped that box differently. How it was stamped is the assembly plant. My GPW is stamped
4X4. That is Dallas.

Re: GPW assembly plant
So what were the other plants? Richmond? Dearborn? Chester? Would be good to know if and how these plants marked their plates.

Re: GPW assembly plant
Richmond = no "day" in the DOD
Chester = serial number stamped twice
Dearborn = small font
Edgewater = no idea, never seen one.
These may have changed during production.
Always check with Tom W. as frame stampings are not as easily swapper around as data plates or glove box doors or tubs.

Re: GPW assembly plant
My GPW #269325 May 28,1945 Dallas produced has a Star stamped before the GPW 269325 on the driver frame rail. Could this also mean Texas produced ?

Re: GPW assembly plant
"Star" = Texas?
Then "Bear" = Richmond, CA
Then "Liberty Bell" or "Keystone" = Chester, PA
Then "Palm Tree" = Edgewater, FL
Hmmm...the STAR is not relevant to just Dallas produced jeeps...

Re: GPW assembly plant
Just a wild guess on my part. As you mentioned, the GPW expert probably knows all the frame markings. Have a nice day Chuck.
