New hand Cart Find

Post by TNYankee » Wed Nov 08, 2017 5:29 am

This is a true barn find! Well, it was a chicken coop find. On Monday I went to look at what was explained to me as a WWII cart, and sure enough it was a 100% original and complete 1943 John Woods M3a4 cart. I was shocked to find it in excellent and complete condition. The family told me at has been sitting in their chicken coop since the 1940's. They live about 20 miles from Camp Toccoa and the gentleman who use to live there had some affiliation to the base. After the war he brought several items home, including this cart. His house was previously a barracks building from the post and after the war he purchased it, disassembled it, move it to his property, re-assembled it, and made it into his home. The family said that the chicken house was beginning to fall apart and they needed to move things out so they wouldn't be destroyed. Now the question is what to do with it? Do I leave it alone in it's current state? Or do I clean it up and restore it? The only item needing replacing are the tubes, but the tires are in amazing condition and have no rot or cracks. Here are some pics!

This is the definition of a true survivor. I personally would replace the tubes and leave it as is. Give a good cleaning and that's it. Nice find.

WD-40 wipe-down/buff to bring the color out and you're set. Very nice.

Was this the one from Craigslist?

I saw it but was too broke to go after it

Good find

I didn’t find it on craigslist, but they told me it was posted there. So it’s probably the same one you saw!

Nice, I found one like yours, but not as much OD paint left on mine. Found near Birmingham, Al.
My cart is serial number 21095.

Hello Tony,

Very nice chicken coop rescue !

This is a cart that is in excellent original condition.
I would clean it and preserve it like it is, like it just came back from a year or two of service at the front !!
It likely would look exactly the same as it does now.

Best Regards,

Ray
