Seeking Wooden Ammo box hardware

Post by Andy Cole » Wed Mar 01, 2017 4:12 am

Hello,
I am setting up to make a 1917 browning water cooled gun spare parts box. It uses the same spring loaded latch as the wooden ammo boxes.
Does anyone have a ratty wooden ammo box that rot or termites have carried it to beyond repair? if I could find a source for those latches and hinges I'd set about making ammo boxes too.

there was a guy on the 1919a4 forum named Jeff that recreated the latches and hinges I believe. This is going back a couple years. He has a business called "iron creations" on the web. Those parts don't seem to be listed now but it might pay off to call him and see if he has any odd ones laying around that weren't worth listing on his site.

I tried that already. He said he did not have any, and no plans to make any more.

I've been fortunate enough to acquire several boxes, but upon getting them, can not bring myself to rob the hardware.

I think I'm going to just make a latch from scratch.

I believe Len on the A4 boards makes a complete spare parts box.

He does. But I'm a "do it yourself" kinda guy. I like the challenge.

I did get the hinges for the top from him.
