Resisstors on M38 gauges

Does anyone know why there are resistors on the 1950 M38 gauges.

The early M38's used 6 volt gauges which required a 90 ohm resistor with
the 24 volt system. Subsequent updates used 24 volt gauges and the resistors
were not needed.
