That is a great drawing. Zeph needs to make it into a poster for all the radio guys. Or a t-shirt?

That picture is of the SCR284A. I picked one up recently for my CC. The interesting thing about that mount is that the frame FM41A does not have any brackets with which to bolt it in, but is instead mounted with canvas straps. If you look closely, it is actually showing how to install this radio in any Command Car, not just a Radio Truck. The Power Unit has a 6-12 volt switch and the cables run to the starter.

Just noticed your post. I just started digging around and e-mailed a guy on eBay and asked if he had any. He had two, so we worked a deal. They come up on eBay for sale once in a while as well I believe.

I also have a complete SCR284 set up. I was thinking about mounting it in one of the 3/4 ton Dodges if I don't unload it. I see what you mean about being ubiquitous in mounting within any vehicle. I saw that the cables went straight to the starter.

Ha! Good for you Zeph...you'll sleep better at night!zepher11 wrote: Also, this evening I picked up some 3/4" angle iron. Yeah, I knew it was coming. I'm going to hack up the CH-60 box and remove the tubular uprights and replace with the angle iron. Almost had myself talked into just letting it be, but for some odd reason I feel compelled to rectify the issue:

Anyone know where I could get some of the small brass studs/rivets that I can use to attach these data plates? I can't seem to find any:

Zeph,
Contact "Old Dude" motorcycle parts.(1-877-653-3833). He sells Harley hardware. The rivets for a generator tag might work, maybe to big? Talk to Clete or Bart and tell them what your trying to do.
Good Luck
Bob

Thank you for the lead Bob! Found out that they are called screw rivets. I have received them in the past with new data plates, but wasn't sure what they were called.

Went a different direction on the rivets for the radio cabinet after Bob's keen observation that they would hit each as the doors folded. These are truss head rivets as opposed to round head. I really liked the round heads, but these truss head rivets will have to do. Would be nice to see an original CH-60 chest for a better idea of door construction. At least these rivets are zinc, so they shouldn't rust:

Re: Dodge WC16 Radio Command Car - Project
The weekend warrior that I am, I thought I would pound some rivets today. I have a section or railroad track that I have had for years. It's amazing how many times this thing has come in handy. Today rivet pounding:
Sample of some pounded rivets. After about ten, I was getting a rhythm going. It was slow and tedious, but then I could immediately take out my frustrations with the hammer. Only one finger suffered a glancing blow. As with most things, a second set of hands would have come in handy:
First door completed:
Both sets completed:
Next I set my sights on tearing into the radio cabinet. A lot of those welds were internal...thank you very much. Lots of precise grinding in the hopes to not mess anything up too badly. Had to cut the receiver tray back a bit:
Tubes removed. I left the upper and lower tubes in:
Angle iron all cut to fit and welded in place:
All done. The receiver tray is set back about 1" now somewhat like the original. Still not exact, but better:
Finally punched a larger hole in the antenna base mount to fit the insulator:
Then after many months of delay, I could finally install the glove box and door. Man, those door springs are fun to install:
Then to make it a perfect day. I noticed my windshield must have cracked while I was at work this week. Wasn't this way last weekend, and no one has been in the garage. One would have thought it would crack putting on the top. Not just sitting there. Just lucky I guess:

Will drilling work? I think I'll take it back to the glass shop and see what they think. Maybe they have some magic up their sleeve.brian in denver wrote:drill it quick. stress from something ?

Installed the map table/support rails today. Would have completed a lot more, but spent about an hour or more looking for the map table. Finally found it stuffed under the front seat:
Blasted, primed and painted the antenna base mount:

Zeph:
In my experience that crack was caused because the glass cutting person did not do a proper job of cutting. Safety glass is not like single pane cutting, by a long distance. Any little chip is enough to start a crack like you have, often by no more than a change in temperature. And those little chips are real easy to get if you do not know your stuff when you are cutting. Or, for that matter, sanding, if that was done.
Good luck with the cutter.

Yeah, it will be interesting taking it back after three months of it just sitting there. What a pain. Doesn't look like an easy removal process now that it is all glued in there. Plus I have to cut up my seal I worked so hard to make perfect.napavalleyartillery wrote:Zeph:
