Any thoughts on this 'star stamped' jerry can

Thought it made more sense to start a new post

I've seen this can for sale and suspect it is a post war promotional can, but has some interesting features and thought I'd ask the community if they knew any more about it

Sammy,
I had to wait a day to get past all the snarky comments that came to mind quickly such as: that's a cool can, wow wish I had that one, never seen that before, and how much? I want to buy it!!! Which leaves me with very little in the way of salient commentary. I take it you have scoured it for marking? especially the faint stamps on the base and handle area like the Westinghouse W, or the Magnatex M. Is the spout opening a standard 2 inch, that would accept the US or French pattern filler neck? Is there a cartouche on the spout lid? What part of the country did it come from? Any back story from the seller? In all an interesting specimen, and I would say a good find.
Cheers,
Rick

Thanks for that, was looking at it on ebay and wondered if it was worth grabbing. So shame we don't know any more, but as you say an interesting one.
