Looking for some advice / PE-95-k
I've got a PE-95-K power unit that has been in storage since 1990 , it was run out of gas
before put into storage , I plan to get it running again to power a Airco Bumblebee (MA)
250 ampere AC/DC stick welder . My plan is to remove and clean the carb ,service the
oil bath air cleaner , flush the fuel tank / lines , not going to look at the points and cap
yet ( thought I'd see if it would start first ) . I don't see where there is a oil filter , so I
I figure to use a non detergent 30w oil , and non ethanol gas . Question ; does this unit
start through the generator ( there is no starter , just a cover plate ) and is it 12 volt
negative ground battery set up ( don't want to fry the points ) , will it run my welder ok ?
( 220 single phase ) What about a ground wire for the welder ? . Any suggestions as to
what to do before first start, other than a good cleaning with high pressure air ?

12 Volt, starts thru the armature. It does have Oil Filter, it's a CUNO, just twist the handle I turn Daily, it slices up the sludge and it gets recycled. Army used Detergent Oil in WWII and later vehicles and 4 cycle engines, no need for non-detergent.
Starter button is on Instrument Panel. Try it without touching the carburetor. It only runs at two speeds, Idle and 1800 RPM.

Would the 12 volt battery be to neg. or pos. ground ? , I see what you're
talking about on the oil filter , tag says to rotate t handle every 8 hours and
to drain at each oil change . Straight 30w detergent or a multi 10/40 ? ,
not sure what you mean by not touching the carburetor ? , don't take it apart
and clean it ,check the needle and seat ? Thanks , Kris

Normallt there are two 6Volt Batteries in Series with the Negative to the Frame. Your 12 Volt will be installed with Negative to the frame. Try starting it without messing with the carburetor, it just may run. Make sure the fuel tank is free of loose corrosion.

Heat control valve
The heat control valve is frozen ( probably in the closed position ) any ideas
or tricks to free it up without removal of the manifold ? , plus there is a crack
on the exhaust flange , I was thinking about a J B Weld fix for that , really
don't want to disassemble , nothing but sheared bolts /studs and heartache
would result , any thoughts or input much appreciated

You can JB weld all you want, it will break again, Heat valve may free up with lots of penetrating oil over time.
Spray all the bolts over a week or two a few times and change the exhaust adapter thing, or leave it like it is or get it welded. You will break it the rest of the way if you try to mess with the ex pipe or muffler. Does this unit have a muffler under there?
Someplace on this site there is a download for manuals, may not cover the K model but might have some info on the grounding or whatever you may be interested in.
Last question, Why run a welder off of this. You will have enough to do with setting up your welds and metal and so, do you really need to go and start a genset and worry about that too?

the shaft back and forth while adding some ATF to it as it cools , there is
no muffler , so I'll make a support for the exhaust pipe and use flex pipe
to a muffler on its own independent support until I can find another exhaust
flange / adapter . The reason I want to use this gen. set to power my welder
is because There is no 220 in my " shop " plus my Dad who was in the Signal Corps
Gave it to me to use someday and it will be a tribute to him

Looks like I got lucky , the mice didn't chew up the wires that I can see ,
a couple before and after pictures of the control panel . guess I better look
at the generator next .

Generator and Radio Truck
My Dad took these pictures while at signal school at camp St Luis Obispo
around 1952 / 53 . the generator looks to be a PE-95 / 2
