Sorry to say I haven't found any other sites with photos of restored or original airborne jeeps. I've got copies of original production plans the machinists used for making most of the mods and referenced placement of items from period shots in some of the regimental histories I've seen.

Outstanding Job!!

Both my M38CDN and My M100 CDN have a telescopic convoy light that shines on the diff and on a white painted plate on the trailer. Both are under restore so its great to see what it looked like when in operation.

There's a few pictures of some airborne parts, floodlamp, trailer socket, wheel adapter, etc. on my website in the "History" section....

Thanks for the link Chaz. I've added it to my favorites along with Horsa and I'm off to get a couple of those books you have recommended. I don't suppose you know where I can get a right hand shock mount for my GPW?

There is a book about WW2 British Airborne jeeps and all the modifications etc. that were done to them. It is titled "Britsh Airborne Jeeps" and written by Monica Baan and someone else. Very limited edition I believe. The authors are Dutch so I've seen that book a couple of times here (don't own it), but it might be hard to find in most other countries.

Nope, fraid not. MB ones are easy enough, but there's no GPW "leftovers" here. I would give Tony Sudds a call on 01474 703 131 or try a wanted add. on Milweb. Failing that you'll need to make one from scratch

Hey Chaz,

We posted back and forth a few years ago about your original airborne parts and what they were. I still think your restoration is amazing. I'll pass the word with some of the people I know building up airborne jeeps that you are making quick release devices for the steering wheel. I had mine made from blueprints by a machinist but most people don't want to wait when they decide they need to have something....

Aye, I remember our wee talk, did you ever find the gun clips you were after ?? I did find a bloke with some sitting in his "useful junk pile", but he would not part with them :cry:

Only have the two holding the Bren up. I've talked to a machinist that thinks he can make them but the spring steel like we need isn't cheap and you have to purchase more from his supplier than I'd need.

I'm considering a run of 10 pair if it turns out he can produce them since thats about how much metal we would end up with. Its the right width strap and correct gauge of steel. Once formed they should hold thier shape and spring tension unless they were put in a furnace again. Still waiting to see what the unit cost would be before I see if anyone would want them.

If interested, let me know and I'll pencil you in as a maybe, dependant on cost of course.

I was thinking the same thought, but the other way round

If the bloke over here would lend me his set, I could make some copies for myself and for sale. I haven't actually tried to source the spring steel, but I have used a company in the past who will make small batches of springs to order and they may be able to do these at reasonable cost or just supply me with some of the correct spring steel?
Have you got any closeup shots of the clips, to see if this blokes are exactly the same as yours??

Hey Chaz,

I'll shoot photos of the clips this weekend and send them to you via private eMail. I'm at work during the week days and my digital camera flash isn't working. Saturday I should be able to shoot pics outside in natural light.
