Happy Birthday GPW 14077

Postby jag » Sun Apr 08, 2012 2:57 am

Today, 8th April 2012, marks the 70th Anniversary of the dod for my GPW14077. Amazing how a vehicle (restored) this age can still perform so well on and off road and provide so much enjoyment both to the owner as well as members of the public who are happy to see a familiar, friendly vehicle. Long live the jeep!

JAG,

Thats is one fine restoration. I am sorry I missed seeing it this year. We'll have to have GPW only parking for next year.

That's a beautiful GPW!! It looks very accurate and complete! One of the most difficult jeeps to restore (VEP GPW)!! Congratulations! Jon S.

Hi Jon, thanks for your comments. The restorer is very experienced and tends to do things correctly. It was also possible to have greater latitude in the correct restoration due to this GPW having been through a commercial, USA based vehicle "reconditioning " program in 3/45. It was sweet to retain many of the priginal VEP features and include some later upgrades such as the rifle rack.

Jag,
mine is GPW 14118 9 April1942 funny to see how close our serial numbers are yet how far they ended up from each other. If only they could speak, parts from our Jeeps were probably in the same bins on the assembly line! Matt

Hi Matt, do you know which plant yours is from and also if you have the original hood rego number? Mine is from Dearborn with an estimated hood number (based on advice from Tom W) of 2061652. I would welcome a few pics if you have them. Email is fine if you can't post them.

regards,

John

John, I always thought my jeep was from the Louisville plant but from my research and info, I have been told; It is from the Texas plant. I somewhat remember Dallas? Problem is I am in Afghanistan and do not have my file next to me right now. When I originally restored in the early 90s I was young and dumb and did not carefully remove the paint on the hood or it was already gone. The best I could do is from the same references you mentioned and came up with 2059418. Pics I can send just drop me a e-mail at allied.airborne1@yahoo.com and I will send some older ones of it. Matt

Hi Matt, no problem, will send you a note and some pics. If its Dallas, the dataplate might have 4X4 in the mystery box?
