Oil slinger drive pinion

Postby MES » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:13 pm

Hi gang,
According to TM 9-1803B and snl g305 there should be a oil slinger (WO 636566) between the outer bearing and gasket on the diff pinion.
On three axles that I've dismantled it was not installed.
I am setting up the differential with new bearings and don't have a oil slinger. Does it make any difference with or without it?
Iguess I can't use other material than steel, since its has to be stable because of the preload on the bearings.

THanks
Regards and ya'll have a nice weekend!!

The purpose of the Oil Slinger WO-636566 is to keep excess oil away from the pinion seal. Why not try to order it from one of the Jeep parts suppliers?

Well, that will take weeks to get here, and I planed on working on it this weekend.
I'll try to make one out of sheet metal.
Thanks

Strange, that slinger was never missing in the axles I have worked on..

Hi Maarten,

The original slinger is 72.5mm outside dia. x 28.5 mm inside dia. x 0.9 mm thick. You could go up to 1.2 mm thick if you had that material.

Hope this helps. :)
