Just picked up this 1987 M1038 a couple of weeks ago....
I'm new to this hobby, but but really enjoying it so far....

I just got a new 4 man top (green) last week, and I should be getting a set of 4 high back chairs today or tomorrow...
I'm looking for a windshield wiper motor and a rear cargo cover for it rt now, and after doing some minor mechanical repairs, I'm hoping to paint it soon.
I'm debating between using Gillespie paint from Rapco, or possibly durabak bedliner...

in their military olive drab, smooth.... Any advice on this project?

It looks pretty nice the color that it already is. Are you thinking of painting the outside with a bed liner?

DO NOT put bedliner on this thing. It destroys the resale value among serious collectors if you ever have to sell it.

Every darn truck I have has bed liner in it.....I sure wish the previous owners did not do it.....but I have to say, it toughens up surfaces if you are really using your truck....plus it can really quiet down road noise.
But I personally would not do it to my trucks.....on another note....how to get that crap off? I have an entire truck
Encased in that crap.....I have used Jason with some success on some test spot areas.....sand blaster was a thought too.

Sand blasting ususlly does nothing to soft things unless you are talking about super high pressures. If you up the pressure you will damage the aluminum badly.

I hope I'm never forced to sell this thing! I'm more interested in building a vehicle that will suit my needs....
I wound up getting Gillespie paint in 383 green for it, and I'm currently doing prep work for the paint....
I was thinking of doing bedliner in the bed and the foot wells to help a little with sound and heat, but I might reconsider...
