Perhaps it was trashed already eg. smashed up deck?
The advert did say that it could be un-modified so it sounds like he took stock mule parts and created the center seater as shown.
It would not be difficult to adapt mule stuff as the axles etc are modular.

I know Jim, the guy who owns this mule, and I have seen it in person. I believe he bought this "mule" already fixed this way. What the PO did was take the running gear and frame of a mule and build a custom top end with new pedals, steering, etc.... While the mule is not what I would want, somebody did put a heck of lot of work into the effort.

I saw that one at Aberdeen a few years back but I don't know if it is the same one or not. When I looked at the one in Aberdeen it was cold & raining and I was hunting the guys selling the Gortex rain jackets, so I didn't spend much time looking at it.
