Axle ID

Postby illini » Thu May 17, 2012 3:57 pm

Want to make sure I have ID'd the correct differentials before I order gaskets. They both look like Dana 25/27s, but the black one (front) doesn't look exactly the same as the green one (rear). Some very minor differences that I'm probably over analyzing. This is on a 1952 M38A1. Thanks!

I see a Spicer 25 Front and a Spicer 44 Rear, which are OEM to the M-38A1.

The Spicer Dana 44 is a larger unit than the one on the front. Note that all 4 backing plates and drums as well as the spring seats and shocks match up to the springs.

I haven't really looked close but, are the backing plates and drums interchangeable for the Dana 25 and Dana 44?
Looking for the following parts to finish my 1952 M38: fuel tank straps, front seat pans, battery cables, top bow rods, patch body panels for rear corners. NOS 0-60 psi oil pressure sending unit with Douglas connector. NOS head light dimmer switch.
