Clutch cable needs a little slack, right?

Postby Frank Bruegger » Tue May 15, 2012 8:34 am

Just to confirm, the clutch cable going into the bell housing needs just a little to almost no "slack" when sitting and the clutch is out, Am I correct? I have a new clutch, bearing, etc and am going thru the Jeep doing my early summer maintanance.

The Clutch cable adjustment is measured at the pedal with 3/4" free play. There will be no measureable slack at the cable.

If you are not sure, you can remove the clutch housing inspection cover for a look. A properly adjusted clutch will have a slight space between the throwout bearing face and the pressure plate fingers.
