I have a 1942 GPW and a 1943 bantam trailer. When I am at car shows people ask me how many of these have survived and been restored. Does anyone have a guess how many restored ww2 jeeps are out there still? how about restored ww2 jeep trailers? ( I am talking th authentic stuff- not Filipino reproductions or korean era trailers /post war cjs being passed off as ww2 vehicles)

That's a good question, and one that will probably be hard to answer with any certainty. There were many thousands rebuilt as jeep salads (Willys and Ford parts used to make a jeep) post WWII in Europe and elsewhere. It would be hard to track down all that are out there with any accuracy. Just my thoughts.

Has anyone done a count of how many WW2 serial numbers are listed on here? would give an approx figure I know about 3 that probably are not on there out of about the 10 jeeps that I know off in this tiny corner of the world (Northen Ireland) so if you scale up from that. Quite a few have made it this far.

The serial numbers forum here is only a small portion of the probable jeeps out there. The validity of some on the forum may be in question. There are some that only have the data plate with no attached jeep. There are others with serial numbers that didn't come from the factory, but still may be a valid vehicle. Corell is talking authentic restored jeeps without reproduction parts or post war parts, that throws a whole new outcome on what's out there.
I would venture to say the unmolested factory jeep or one that has been restored to factory class is few and far between. There are many that would be considered wonderfully restored but with reproduction and post war parts. Would these be considerd under his parameters? Just some thoughts.

If my memory is correct, a similar question was asked was few years ago and the number that came back - from the g503 database I think was in the low 000's.

Not that many.

I'm talking restored WW2 - that includes those with repro parts.

And I add that my MB has the rear half of the body repaired from MD Jaun parts although the rest is 90% original. You can't put fiflipino part jeeps in a different category.
And I'm proud to drive a jeep that I know went through WW2 here in France even with a few extra new pieces. Isn't that more real than one that never left the States ? (ouch - couldn't resist !)
