One thing's for sure, I've never found any re-enactor site that is as well-run and cordial than the "G"!

Yeah, but you have to admit that's a very specific (and small) segment of the hobby overall. I once thought of starting a forum for correspondent re-enactors but thought better of it when I realized at the most I could count on a peak membership in the dozens at best. That wouldn't be worth anyone's time in my opinion.
I think most people here would probably agree with my wish that there could be a forum run and populated like the G, but focusing on WW2 re-enacting overall.
Sadly, the divisive nature of the hobby probably dooms that from the start.

The BIG problem is many get on "power trips" when they run or moderate the forums. THAT'S what's cool about here none of that!

A pal of mine on the forum just e-mailed me this. There was a public announcement of another person being banned, this time for threatening the mods. Wanna see what the threat was?
This was cut-and pasted from the forum to my e-mail while I looked over the shoulder of my friend (who will remain obviously nameless) so I know it's complete and unedited. This is the message they got from a (now banned) member wanting to get a photo removed from the forum:

Okay, it comes across pretty huffy, self-important and a little on the rude side, I'd agree with the forum mods on that. I have yet to decode a "threat" as such in this message...
What the guy was ticked about was a photo posted on that forum pointing out the childish nature of the above guy’s group at a public event. The same friend of mine sent the photo to me (and many others):

The really funny thing is I was ‘suspended’ from the very same forum a few years ago by the very same people for posting a photo of another group doing much worse than this (very dangerous photos with unsafe gun-knife use at public events). But if the mods are doing it, well, that’s just fine, isn’t it?

This is an interesting thread, I too have had my headaches with the proboard mods over the years. I've noticed as of late that the forum doesn't seem to have as much activity as it used to which I find troubling. While I recognize that people have had and continue to have their issues with that forum (I've had mine for sure), it did do some good and still does. Since taking a larger role at the Thunder over Michigan Air Show and Reenactment what is most bothering me is the reduced traffic in the event section. Up to now the proboard has served as a great place to keep the reenacting community updated on the show and to recruit new participants. With the proboard seemingly going by the wayside what alternative is there? The only thing I see becoming common is the use of facebook event pages.

Does anyone else having any thoughts on this?

No, Paul is kept around because we do not ban people on that forum. That is the only reason why. As one of the moderators of that board, I understand your frustration with the lack of involvement and posting. It frustrates me as well that every thread turns into Paul being his usual hypocritical self and it degenerates into beating your head against the wall...I have been trying to get him frustrated enough to leave on his own for the last couple of months but it is no joy...

You're right, I'm seeing more and more of that, and many of these groups require you to 'friend' them just to look. To me, that's downright stupid. You want an open place where anyone can look to see you're upcoming stuff if you want people to show up or join the group. Facebook is like a cult almost; many people there think that every human on earth is there and scoff at the idea that there are plenty of people who operate just fine without facebook at all. In the end, they're just limiting those who they can recuit and the public who might show up because who wants to 'friend' every [bleep]ing group in the world just to see if there' ssomething that they might wanna know about?
I have zero use for Facebook and I can't see that I ever will.
