Hi Chuck:

It was great seeing you again too at Tower Park, if only for a few hours. I was glad to be able to share the Willys LOPN with you so you could see its benefits as well as its limitations. And it was fun reviewing Tom's stack of Ford documents. I think we all realized again that the more you know the less one actually knows! Frank and his friend offered to get me half-jacked, and I don't doubt that Jack Black crossed their minds. Now we have to see if we can convince our distillery friends in Lynchburg, Tenn. to make some Jack OD to fulfill all our special needs.

Well, I had a good time with Joe both years! :D

And, I had a great time at Tower Park this year. So much to do and so little time.

Hi Jeff:

A quick look in the Willlys List of Parts Numerical (LOPN) reveals the jack and handle used on the QUAD and seen in your above photo were Willys part numbers A-380 (Jack Screw type) and A-381 (Jack Handle). These became obsolete on 2-19-41 when they were replaced by jack A-653 (Jack-Screw type Spun Steel #200W-G) and handle A-654 (Jack Handle Spun Steel #200W-Q) used on the MA jeep. The MA jack was replaced in the MB by A-1240, a Spun Steel Corp. #200W-G screw type jack furnished without a handle (but which used the A-348 socket [wheel nut] wrench as the jack handle).

Thank you Fred! I knew if anybody would be able to answer that you'd be one of the few!

Wait a minute, that does not look correct to me, Fred. I have for the MA, Group 16 page 2 of 3, dated 4-29-41...

A-653 Jack, screw type, Walker Mfg. Co. 313-C
A-654 Handle, Walker Mfg. Co. EX1781

Please correct me if I'm wrong. :|

Someone should put the correct jack numbers on the tool list as these are important tool numbers that seem to get lost in the volume of threads and posts on the topic.

Hi Mark:

I got my information from the LOPN. Is the 4-29-41 date on your MA BOM Group 16, Tools, page 2 of 3, correct? Or is it 1-29-41? Please advise. Thanks!

darn, can't get my own dates straight. It's January 29, 1941

You read me that data and I wrote it down correctly from the WO List of Parts, Fred.

That was a couple of months ago when we were talking about Walker jacks.

Hi Fred,

You wrote on the first page of this thread that you are looking for a jack with

The rear end is stamped "W" on one side and "1-1/2" on the other side:

Are you sure these are the markings you want on a jack originally installed in a 44 MZ-2 ?

Hi Tom:

Not absolutely, positively, cross-my-heart sure, but to my best knowledge, yes. That is what my research here on G503 has suggested (not confirmed) likely was stamped on the A-12268 jack. If you have any information that contradicts my conclusion, or suggests other markings were on the A-12268 jack, I would appreciate seeing it. (I assume you have a purpose or point to make in asking your question, correct?) Thanks!

Hi Fred,

If you have any information that contradicts my conclusion,

I don't have anything per say but reading the MB bottle jack A-12268 drawing, notated by Willys-Overland personnel, the drawing was changed on 01-23-51 adding the W and 1 1/2 which also was noted as the manufacturer name changing date from Ajax Auto Parts to Walker. My guess would be the " W " is like the Ford " F " so a Walker jack could be told apart from an Ajax Auto Parts jack for possible warranty issues.

I have you Tom and I'm going to squeeze you on this one.

First... Ajax Auto Parts Comany was acquired by Walker in 1929 so your argument is moot.

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/about/walkerhistory.asp

If you read note "G" on drawing A-12268 carefully, the spec in the lower left hand corner and marking on the plan view (there is only a "W" marked), you will understand that the "W" and 1 1/2 was marked on the earlier jacks and only the "W" after the note.

G:
#2181-AB was Ajax Auto Parts NO. 2181; "W" & 1 1/2 shown on jack. 1/23/51

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the clarification on reading the W-O jack drawing.

So the 1 1/2 added in 51 ? Since this drawing was first issued in 46, what notes were on the original " C " size drawing issued during WW2 ?
