Toby:
"Wartime Jeeps just look wrong with those slotted wheels. The other thing that gets me is lockout hubs. Makes Jeeps look as though they have cartoon ears. There are an awful lot of 'all original' Jeeps that have both."Another thing that distracts a lot of attention is the application of tire pressure markings: "T.P. 35" (psi) or even worse "T.P. 22" (kg/cm2) above each wheel. I still have to find a single picture where the tire pressure has been marked above the wheels. On the dash, yes, and even inside the wheel well of a 1/4t trailer, but never, never, never, ever above the wheels. Only done post war. The Germans did put the marking on some, but not all, of their vehicles.

And lockout hubs, why? I don't know anyone that drives their Jeep/Dodge/GMC or other MV long enough every year to warrant the cost of buying and installing them. A group of guys in a Dodge WC51 living way up north in Sweden actually removed the innards of the front axle before driving to Normandy in 1989. 3.000 kms, or so, one way..... Any fuel savings they could get were welcome.
And why install the lockout hubs if you tow your Jeep to rallies anyway?
"I got excellent mileage driving 10 miles or so around the campsite during the rally"Wanna put markings on your Jeep ?(post war M201 Hotckiss Jeeps are ok) Choose a little know outfit such as 101 airborne 506..... (NOT!)
