Today 16 April 1942 is my Jeeps birthday, I was hoping to having it running but a couple personal issues have slowed the work a little, Canvas now all fitted late last night well after the latest photo was taken.

See it's story here. viewtopic.php?f=127&t=172207

Quick Edit... M more photos as this is a "Photo Gallery" forum

John,
You obviously have to be proud of your accomplishments thus far, regardless of if you slightly missed your personal deadline.
And it is still April 15th here in America, so if you hurry..... 8)

John,

I am excited for you to finally be in the last lap of your restoration. I cannot wait to get there also. Very nice work on a very nice jeep.

Rodney,

Thanks for your comments, I have followed your thread from the start & my Jeep had a lot in common with yours. Mine has been so much more difficult as I live in a very small country town where even simple things like unc / unf nuts means a 60 mile drive to get them, & every part has to come by post or freight & some parts have had to come from Ron & all this adds to the cost, I have for 98% of the time been a one man operation & that gets hard for things like getting the tub back on.

My metal guy did a great job of the body, I am hoping that soon I may be able to run it properly, it was almost there a couple of weekends back but the starter motor clapped out & so it goes on, would I do it again, yes I would but now I am way better educated & would do it so much smarter & easier it there was to ever be a "next time".

See all I have gone through on out club forum.

Beautiful Jeep - good to see so many with Combat Rims on here - seems locally there are alot of Cj2/Cj5 rims that nobody seems to see a problem on their (ALL ORIGINAL) Jeep

A real bugbear with me too, for some reason. Wartime Jeeps just look wrong with those slotted wheels. The other thing that gets me is lockout hubs. Makes Jeeps look as though they have cartoon ears. There are an awful lot of 'all original' Jeeps that have both.

Another thing that distracts a lot of attention is the application of tire pressure markings: "T.P. 35" (psi) or even worse "T.P. 22" (kg/cm2) above each wheel. I still have to find a single picture where the tire pressure has been marked above the wheels. On the dash, yes, and even inside the wheel well of a 1/4t trailer, but never, never, never, ever above the wheels. Only done post war. The Germans did put the marking on some, but not all, of their vehicles.

And lockout hubs, why? I don't know anyone that drives their Jeep/Dodge/GMC or other MV long enough every year to warrant the cost of buying and installing them. A group of guys in a Dodge WC51 living way up north in Sweden actually removed the innards of the front axle before driving to Normandy in 1989. 3.000 kms, or so, one way..... Any fuel savings they could get were welcome.

And why install the lockout hubs if you tow your Jeep to rallies anyway?

"I got excellent mileage driving 10 miles or so around the campsite during the rally"

Wanna put markings on your Jeep ?(post war M201 Hotckiss Jeeps are ok) Choose a little know outfit such as 101 airborne 506..... (NOT!)

Goran,
Your picture seems to show the marking "35 MPH", with the" H" missing in the burnt out section.
