Wingnut,it's true-a hefty box for even a healthy person...mine is only about 50% or less complete and not at all light.BTW,my GMTK are kept loosely in a Vietnam era box for now.For when the collection matures I have one of the EJ Mcleer,Philadelphia,boxes,which-may- be a wartime unmarked 41-B-1840,jury is still out on that....I had a pic up at one time...ImageImage The tray has the oil hole-my pic doesn't show it though,I'll try for some better shots...

I am firmly in the unmarked = early war camp, if all the other key characteristics (corner supports, spot welded handle tabs, etc) meet the specs. It follows suit with everythnig else with respect to FSN markings that the sought after marked boxed may actually be late war or post-war.

As a PA native, husband of a Philly girl born and bred, and all-around Philly fan, I was actually hoping to find a McAleer. I ran into a Signal Corps box made by Union first. (But it's distributed by Fleck Bros, and I believe they were Philly area cmopany vending for Signal Corps.)

Where have I seen a very small slip joint pliers, maybe 4" long? Did someone have a pair added to their ignition wrenches?

Hi Luke. The two that I have seen are Wieder Alexander's and mine, which can be seen here: http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=190932&p=1166204&hilit=Dro+Chrome#p1166204. There may be others. My set came with a tiny screwdriver also.

Ok. Thanks, but the pliers are not mentioned in the manuals, correct? I found a set of Utica's. Haven't picked them up yet.

I just discovered that they are included in the July 1945 ORD 6 SNL G-27, Luke! As well as the migit driver. They're not shown in the figure, but they are in the SNL with their own FSN. See link provided by Hartofoak in Kevin Monahan's 'complex task' thread.

:D

They are mine now. They are a different brand than the rest of my ignition wrenches, but that's OK. I'll go with the theory that they were added to the pre-existing GMTS per the change in '45. :)

Anyway, what's the particulars on the little screwdriver?

Sure do. Same box, albeit a lot rustier, and his isn't data tagged.

Congrats on the midgets, luke. I didn't see you had updated your post until now.

Wingnutt, I have been using your toolkit as a guide for mine. Happily I inherited my grandfather's tools and I have had good luck sorting through them and finding what I needed. I am specialising my GMTK a bit by adding some MB/GPW specialty tools. This box will serve as the goto box in my shop when I need to know exactly where something Jeep related is (and my shop staff have already been threatened with pain of death should I find something missing!!). It is nice to have the Army layout because so far I have found that it is basically almost everything I need to work on Jeeps. So my toolkit will be a working/ used and loved one :D Thanks for the wonderful work you did on this post! I have been using antique tools for years and am excited to have a set laid out so well.

I have a few extra DC circle X & G-code Duro-Chromes that I'd be happy to trade or even sell. Some are NOS & others are well used, but all would serve fine in a tool set. Let me know what you need, or if I have a chance later I'll dig through them & PM you a list of what I have.
