slat gas pedal

I am looking for an original (not repro) early MB slat gas pedal (accelerator treadle) A-1084 with the rubber socket on the back and no F mark on pedal. This early gas pedal was also used on the MA. Any condition is OK.

According to TM-10-1512 the first 116790 MB + GPW had the rubber socket on the back of the gas pedal.

Hi George,

I will have a look as i had one of these and wasnt sure why it had the rubber grommet but no F mark- i just dont know where it went (likely sold, not lost!)

Here a pic of it from when i asked on the tech forum a few months back. I had kept it thinking it might be correct for my MB 131175, but obviously based on your TM info, it is not!

If i can find it, hows $40AU plus post sound? That is what i usually get for gas pedals- i`m not fussed this is an earlier one and want more money (as i didnt know its rarity before, so why should that change the price later!). I just need to find it and with holidays next 2 weeks, that should be easier to do.... keep PM'ing me until i let you know yay or nay!

In the mean time, if others have one, please pipe up for George as i cannot guarantee i still have the one pictured above.

Ian that Gas pedal is in my opinion correct for your MB. The early Broken Hill MB and the other I sourced from down South both had this type of pedal. So I think it's fair to say that Script MB's had this type as well - just dont know when they changed type. But Im sure it was after ours as I can not see these being fitted later as part of the refurbishment prior to shipment to Australia.

Brett- thanks for that info mate! I hadnt thought to ask you what those 2 had- der! While i look around this one, i shall check if 131175 had its pedal on it (dont think it did)- If i dont have one, i am afraid i might have to recind the offer of this one George. However, i will check and let you know. Knowing my luck, i dont have one for 131175 and i have sold the one pictured... always the way!

With that said, there isnt anything special about them- i think drilling out the metal cup on a standard one and replacing it with the rubber grommet (which is a bugger of a job!) would work just as well, but for those of us who want to know we have the right, not a made up/repro/post war part, it would bug us (me included!).

Thanks for your gas pedal photos. I agree that your pedal looks like the original early MB with rubber socket that I am looking for. I also agree that the pedal in you photo is correct for your MB131175. I can understand if you want to keep it for your MB. However, if you do want to sell, please let me know.

Based on your photo, the depth of your MB metal stamping does not appear to be deeper than the original GPW pedals I have seen. From all the G503 posts I was under the impression that the MB was stamped deeper than the GPW. Apparently it is not.

According to TM-10-1512, the rubber socket was used on both the MB and GPW on the first 116,790 jeeps. If this quantity is split between the MB and GPW the change to the steel socket was made in mid 1942 at approx s/n MB163395 and GPW53395 assuming more MB than GPW were built by mid 1942. Maybe someone could make a better calculation.

From what I have read on old G503 posts, there seems to be a misconception that only the GPW had the rubber socket on the gas pedal. However, it was Willys that originally had the rubber socket 651298 on the 1939-1941 cars (see photo of Americar gas pedal below). This rubber socket was then used on the MA. The MB used the same rubber socket from 1941 to mid 1942. Ford copied the Willys drawings and started the GPW production with a rubber socket until mid 1942.

Presently, parts suppliers are offering a repro F marked GPW gas pedal with the rubber socket. The repro MB gas pedals are being offered with the steel socket on the back.

To make the early MA and MB restoration correct, one option is to remove the steel socket from a repro MB pedal and install a repro GPW-9731 rubber socket. The rubber socket can be sanded to remove the GPW letters. Another option is to purchase the GPW gas pedal with rubber socket and fill in the F mark on the front.

If anyone else has an early MB gas pedal with the rubber socket please post photos. It would help to confirm the stamping depth compared with the GPW.

I believe that the WIDTH of the EDGE of the pedal is wider on the later types with a STEEL socket on them....maybe a Ford/Willys thing though...

Thanks for sharing your original GPW gas pedal photos. Your pedal looks exactly like Ian’s MB pedal except yours has the F. I don’t see a difference in the metal stamping between the early MB and the GPW.

Until I can find an original, I made an early MA / MB gas pedal (see photos below).
I had an old F marked pedal with a dried out broken rubber socket. I don’t know if this pedal was a repro or NOS pedal. I removed the broken socket and installed a fresh repro rubber socket. I sanded off the GPW letters on the socket and the F on the pedal.

I would still like to see photos of other early MB gas pedals with the rubber socket and no F stamp on the metal. If anyone has one please post photos so we can get another confirmation of the metal stamping features / depth / width / etc like Ian’s MB pedal.

My gas pedal is not stamped with the F. I can't remember it had the rubber socket...It could be ...

Another early MA / MB gas pedal has been found with rubber socket and no F mark on metal. This one is from Wayne Douglas. He gave me permission to post these photos. The rubber socket is broken off and needs to be replaced.

Note that the metal stamping is the thin type, same as Ian’s MB above and same as Chuck’s early NOS GPW pedal above.

I cant seem to find the one i posted pics of above, so i assume it is sold (if i found it, i am sorry but i would withdraw it from sale to use on MB 131175 as per the logic of Brett and yourself).

I will keep an eye out though and let you know if another (in addition to the one i now need for 131175!) turns up.
