1942 Willys Radio Jeep MB#197241

Postby AntonioFucci » Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:02 pm

I found this jeep in the countryside of Parma (ITALY). The person to whom it belonged to a farmer who has used it from 1947 until 1985 to transport wood from the mountains. The engine and the body are original although it has been painted a green pea. Being restored in the windshield I found inseigne of the British 8th Army 176th ITRUY Signal Engineer, and still under the insignia of the 82nd Airborne Sig.Co. K4 The original hood number found under the paint 20298865-SX is in blu. (x) Suffix very hard to find i think is experimental.I found the original 12V generator, 12V regulator and 12V meter for check yhe tension for the radio. The person who sold me the jeep I was also handed over the radio that had been assembled. A SCR-284 BC-654 with its mounting. Very provable jeep arrived in Italy with the landing force came to Sicily from North Africa and subsequently assigned to British troops. After a long and painstaking restoration, the jeep is finally reborn. The radio station SCR-284 BC-654 and M-209 encoder is in perfect working condition.I rebuild the PE-104 with a new switching poer supply, changed some capacitors and some tubes. All stages are well aligned and the radio work wery well. Ijust finish to restore the 1942 Trayler Bantam T-3 #4581 to.

What size of 12v generator is in it?

Any photos of the generator and regulator?

Nice jeep, radio and trailer. :)

Hi Enry
After carefully studying the manuals in detail I have begun the arduous and delicate work of restoration.
The only help received was the one workshop to rectify.
The help of an old gentleman specialist in paints has been decisive to achieve a matt finish
like that of a time without the use of chemical matting.

Hi Bill
The original antenna base that i found when i bought the jeep was the MP-37AW in white color, but il was very large and was dangerous for the circulation, so i decided to install the antenna base MP-22 more small. In this case if you want use the radio in transmission mode, three element accepted on the MP-22 are not sufficient. In the tx mode the BC-654 need a long antenna 10Ft (5 elements) because the frequency is low. I chenge the antenna base with the original MP-37AW is same special occasion when i want to use the BC-654 very well. I post two new photos of the original MP-37AW and braket. If you need more photos of this please give me your email address. Best 73 Antonio

We did get to meet up with the wonderful team comprising the "Column of Liberation" in Cervia and had the privilege of driving the Rover Joe jeep to Cesena.
I saw Antonio's SCR-284 jeep in person and it looked fantastic! Well done OM!
