The early Chev 4X4 with the Civilian Gauges did have an Ash Tray. So did the First Series CCKW of 1941.

I have a '41 Chevy with military dash plus ash tray. And a gas tank under the seat.

I can't remember if that spare dash I pulled from the parts truck still had the ash tray or not,I'll look tomorrow, when Paul and I were looking at the tipper he bought we notice that the ash tray door just had a bracket across the back with a couple screws to hold it in the dash, no ash tray though!

At some point the Chevy went to the same dash style as the later closed cab CCKW, they did away with the ash tray and moved all the controls, choke, throttle, etc, down onto a single panel that covered the ash tray opening, that's what the extra dash I pulled from the chevy parts truck had.
