I went and got some standard 10' 3/4 EMT and the corresponding tubing bender from my local hardware store. I have also tested this same bow on my other Ford GPW with the canvas up and it did great. I had the original bows on my other jeep to use as a pattern. I bent 4 10' pipes where they needed to be bent to be of size and welded each bow together with a solid slug of metal in the middle for strength. Then i got my hammer and hammered the shorter bow flat about 2inches up the pipe and drilled the holes for the pivoting and grinded the proper contours on the ends. Then I got the longer bow and notched the ends for the storage brackets. Then I cut 2 2X1 inch piece out of 10 gauge metal for the pivot section and welded them on. After that I bolted the two bows together and painted them. It costs me:
Tubing bender--------------------$45.00
4 10' EMt 3/4inch------------------$5.50
welding wire and gas------------$around $1.50?
Paint------------------------------$15.00
Bolts and nuts--------------------$2.00
I am going to make these for all my projects now. I also built the rear seat frame on this Jeep. Those take me 4 hours each... but i build them for about $50each verses buying them for $200 or however much they are.
Thanks
