Hi people ,

Its been a while but i picked up my restoration now with the nice weather and i'm back in business..
My frame is still being welded so in a few weeks i should have it ready as one clean base.

During the cold weeks, i have limited myself into restoring my leaf springs. My only problem is that i miss the biggest leaf blades of the front springs. I hope to find those soon!

What i'm up to now is work on my rear axle , an operation i was always afraid of BUT it's not as hard as it looks ( for now! ).
I took it apart today tomorrow i will clean up the whole thing. I hope to have it ready by the end of the week.

Here are some shots of today :

One question :

Should i disassemble this unit ? Or could i keep it like this ? ( I will clean it completely )
Everything is in best shape possible ...

Thanks!

Today i put all items in place, and renewed every oil seal and up till now it fits perfectly.
I'm at the point of finishing up the axle but i have to adjust my brake shoes :? .. doesn't look easy to me so i have to read the manual and see i can get it right.

Robin,
Nice work. To the best of your knowledge, are your scalloped rear axle shafts original to the jeep?

Today is kinda a big day to me ... i finished my rear axle. At first i was kinda scared to start on it , because i'm not really a mechanic but overall..it went pretty decent.
Pictures are of bad quality due to the excessive sunshine we had , but i'll just post the ones i have.
Next week i'll start my front axle :|

Everything functions smoothly as it should be , the brakes are not yet " at point " but thats for a later time.

Now my rear axle is " finished " , it's time for my front axle.
Looks a bit harder but i'll take it one step at a time, instead of dismantling the whole thing in one time..

Here are some pics of today

Today we started with finishing the framework (welding) and so we did...and we've put a 2nd primer coating on just to be sure we didn't miss a spot.

Tomorrow 2 coatings OD and i consider my framework " finished " ...new milestone in my project!

After this makeover , i continued dismantling my front axle , up till now so far so good but i can't loosen my drive pinion nut...it's pretty stuck so i do hope my lubricant will settle in and i'll give it a new try tomorrow so i can finish the stripping work.

Only thing missing is the battery tray but that will be placed in the future.

Hi people,

the past few days i've been dismantling and cleaning up my front axle. Nothing special to report about that, everything is going fine.
I'll add some various shots.

My front axle seems to be dated : 1 9 42
My pinion is dated : 1 6 42

So far so good!

Some blurry images but thats all i have for now...

Still... so far so good with my front axle.
I had some troubles with damaged wire , but my friend Tom ( Mountaineer ) fixed it with his skills.

Today i started reassembly and you'll see how it went with some pictures..
