REO M275 Winch and Carb ?'s

Postby StudeM275 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 2:46 pm

I am currently looking at a REO M275 truck tractor. It has duel winches, with front winch missing. What size winch is needed for front bumper?
Couldn't find a tag, what is winch capacity of rear winch?
Also, what is CFM rating on the Holly carb? Engine is a REO 331.

Thanks much!

M275's did not have rear winches, the vast majority also did not have front winches either.

Well, the truck is in fact a model 275. It does have a front winch bumper on it, simply missing the winch.
There is a PTO winch mounted behind the cab. It appears to have a mil-spec tag, that is painted over and cannot read. It was a municipality owned truck. So, it is possible that they added the rear winch to suit their needs. The rear winch cable needs to be replaced. What size do I need? The main concern is what winch belongs in the front bumper, and can it be found?
Also, I'd like to know what size carb is on here as it needs to be re-built. Its a Holly 2 bbl. The shop needs to know what CFM to do the re-build. Apparently, there are several similar looking models.

Thanks much,

Carb kits and carbs are cheap. Does the data plate say w/w and does it match the frame VIN?

The data I remember is that it says M275 2.5 ton 6x6 truck tractor w/w or w/wn . . . Gross max load highway 36,000lbs. . .9.00x20 duel 11.00x20 single.

Thanks,

Just swung by the truck again. And, it is a REO M275 w/w. Looked for info on rear winch, but it got to dark to see. Almost tempted to buy the truck to solve the mystery!

Couldn't find the CFM on the carb to do a re-build. Snooped around the Holly carb site. Talked to a tech. We decided on a more modern Holly 500 2bbl manual choke. It was suggested by tech as one to use to replace the old vintage carb. It was his impression that the old carb was most likely insufficient to properly feed that engine out to its maximum potential. I have decided to purchase the truck!

It says it is for M35A2. I assume that the winches are mostly interchangeable. Correct?

The Basic Winch mounted on the M-Series M-35 Gas Model was installed on all subsequent M-35 thru the Multifuel powered models. Same winch unit also installed on GMC M-135/M-211 with different PTO and Driveline.
